The Arrangement (Kde končí láska) is a drama written and directed by Milan Cieslar and inspired by real events: an unconventional, open love triangle that is also a love story full of intimacy, eroticism and manipulation. A fifty-year-old man falls passionately in love with a younger, independent woman, but her friend comes to play an unexpectedly strong part in their relationship, and the question of surrogacy changes the triangle completely. The leads are Ivan Franěk, who works mainly in France and Italy, rising actress Zuzana Částková and the Croatian actress Ivona Baković. The film was released in Czech cinemas on 1 May 2025.
The film shows love at its extremes, in a world where everything seems possible and yet so much is uncertain, anxious and lonely. “It’s a contemporary story of a man in a world of women,” says Cieslar. Besides the love affair with two young women, the hero has to come to terms with his ex-wife and with his ailing mother, who shaped his life. The characters are not sentimental; at times they are raw, even shocking, because the aim was a story as truthful as possible. That is also why Cieslar cast outstanding actors who mostly work abroad and are not yet well known to Czech audiences.
