Emergency Situation (Mimořádná událost) is a comedy drama about a small local train running with no driver and its passengers locked inside. The railcar is rattling through the picturesque Czech countryside when it breaks down and the driver, Miloš, gets out to fix it. Standing on a gentle slope, the train starts rolling back towards the station it came from, and Miloš can only jog after it. The passengers are glad to be moving again until they realise they are heading the wrong way. They protest and demand information, but the driver’s cab is sealed and silent. Panic spreads: is it a hijacking, revenge or a complete system failure? Their mobile phones let them down, and shouting out of the windows is no use either. Using brute force and a hunter’s shotgun, they break into both driver’s cabs, only to confirm their worst fear: nobody is driving the train. Outside, meanwhile, the local authorities set about a rescue operation that is every bit as absurd.
