The Candidate (Kandidát) is a comedy thriller about the power of the media in an age when information is the most valuable currency. Two months before a presidential election, Adam Lambert, the successful and influential owner of an advertising agency, takes on a lucrative job: running the campaign of an odd candidate, an unremarkable small-town businessman. The point is simply to stir the political waters and take a few votes from the other side. Lambert is used to manipulating anyone without a second thought, and he always gets what he wants. But at a party he lets his rival Ivan Muller, who works for the clear favourite, provoke him into a bet worth around seven million euros. Lambert stakes everything he owns on a single horse and swears he will turn this nobody into the next president, in the very first round. The film is a cynical portrait of a society that lets itself be manipulated by the rich and powerful, in a world where the line between truth and illusion, and between good and evil, disappears.
